Weather commentary

I still plan to finish going through the rest of our last R&R in China (of course, at this rate we'll be going on our next one before I finish telling you about our last one!), but don't have time this morning to actually sit down and go through the guide book to remember all of the places in Hong Kong that we really loved. The one observation I wanted to make is how much of a shock the difference between a dry season and a wet season can be in a place like this. Before a couple of weeks ago, it hadn't rained since about May, and all of a sudden now it's 45 degrees and raining every third day or so. Quite an adjustment from walking out the door every day knowing that the only question was whether it was going to be 80 or 100 that day to all of a sudden have to remember things like umbrellas and jackets and other logistical concerns!

I remember from when we lived in Turkey that the change was pretty sudden and permanent, but years of living in the DC area where every season begins with several weeks of one step forward and two steps back to sort of ease one into the change. I went on TDY two weeks ago and brought only thin long-sleeve shirts, and by the time I was sitting on the (not very insulated) plane coming back, I was cursing myself for not remembering that the temperatures would drop an average of 15 degrees pretty much overnight. So now I'm digging out our sweaters and jackets and trying to remember where the heck we put our rain gear six months ago when we last needed it...

HAYYYYY-LO!!!!

So, I am not sure how this "blog" thing works, and I am not sure that even if I get this right that you guys will actually see this because I am attaching it to an old one, but I cannot figure out how to post a comment on the latest thing...hmm...that lesson is for another day...

Ok, now that I have gotten my initial rambling out of the way, on to the more important stuff (note: the rambling needed to state that rambling was done!)...

Anyway, I am horrrrrrible for not checking in with your guys sooner, but since I started working, I have not actually used my personal computer and I would rather not open up your blog (and my personal life) on Federal Government computers (call me a little paranoid)...so, that explains somewhat my absence...but now I am back!!

Your trip to China sounds amazing, you in Christian L heels cracks me up, and your endless search for fruits and vegetables makes me feel utterly grateful that I at least have Fiji apples here!...Oh, and perhaps more importantly, I am totally shocked that you, Heidi, managed to figure out the blog thing, and then to stay with the blog for so long...if I remember correctly there are a number of "projects" still to be finished in Arlington!!...

Anyway, I am forever grateful that both of you are safe and doing as well as can be expected, and know of course that there is not a day that does not go by where I do not think of you guys in the ends of the earth and pray for your well-being and safety...

Hopefully, I will be better about checking my computer more frequently, but until then, take care...love you lots and lots...and miss you even more!

:)

p.s. - happy belated birthday to danny, and I guess given the slowness of mail, I should start on the whole birthday card thing for you now huh Heidi?
